THE WORLDS FAVOURITE TV SCIENCE SHOW   product reviews
BBC Tomorrow's World
BBC Tomorrow's World "For many people, "a working day" means sitting in an office, stuck behind a desk. In fact it's been calculated that over a lifetime, an office worker will spend a total of five years just staring at a computer.

Getting that office environment just right is all important. Jez Nelson went to road test a few gadgets with a group of people who know a thing or two about good design - a busy architect's office.

Knee Mouse Pad
One of the biggest complaints from people who use computers a lot is that when they're working with the mouse their arm and shoulder start to ache. So welcome to the K-mat . It takes the pad off the desk and puts it onto the knee allowing for a  more relaxing and productive day's mousing. In the test office everyone seems to have taken to it enthusiastically, happily stroking their thighs, but what do they really think of the new mat? "I use a mouse all day and get pains. When I first saw it I was a bit sceptical. It looks funny, but I liked it" said one tester. "I think it's really comfortable to use, it feels natural" said another."

"Thigh high
After browsing the Web or playing games for long periods of time, your arm might ache because you've been stretching your arm to use the mouse. It's just this kind of strain that a new kind of mouse mat is designed to prevent. The K-mat has been designed to sit on your thigh so that you can move your mouse without pulling a muscle.
The mat has other advantages too. It clearly saves space on a cluttered desk and enables you to use your mouse at a greater distance from your monitor thereby avoiding eyestrain. We think it's a great idea but we found you need a wireless mouse, or at least one with a longer cord than ours had. It's best when you're using the Internet or playing point and click adventure games. other wise you still have to reach for the keyboard, which somewhat defeats the object."

T3 magazine"A RIGHT OLD KNEES UP
The Knee mouse mat fits snugly over your thigh, and apparently cuts down on the possibility of developing repetitive strain injuries, caused by prolonged use of a conventional desktop mat."

Coat Hanger Magazine "Hands, knees...and mice
Cut down on the chance of developing repetitive strain injury by swapping your boring old mouse-mat with the exciting new Knee Mouse Mat. It fits snugly over your thigh, costs only a tenner, and is predicted to become the latest fashion accessory for cyber-reps every-where."

Personal Computer World"LEG IT!
Believe it or not, it's a mouse mat that you put on your knee. No, really it works too, despite the fact the the resulting surface is unsurprisingly, curved in the manner of a leg."

Daily ECHO
BUSINESS "A mouse mat that has met a K-need
Computer users fed up with crowded desks can now clear at least one item of equipment out of the way - the mouse. The K-mat is placed around the user's knee, which not only frees the mouse from the desk clutter but also falls in a more natural position for the operator.
K-mat (knee mouse mat) recently received a gold merit award at the Invention Fair in London."

The Independent On Sunday
"Do this IT'S TAKEN a while, but finally technology has come up with a way to spice up your mouse life in the shape of the K-mat. This mouse mat fits snugly on your thigh and has been designed to help to ease repetitive strain injury caused by excessive mousing. Keeping your hand on your leg helps to encourage correct posture and puts less strain on the arm, which has to be a good thing."

The Telegraph "Is your mouse lost forever under piles of paper? Well here's your answer. The K-mat is the first mouse mat that rest on your knee."

Inventors World Magazine" The Mouse Mat
The mat is no longer located on a cluttered desk but worn, on the knee. When using the Knee Mouse Mat, the arm is in a neutral position, with the elbow bent and resting naturally on the user's body at 90 degree angle."

"Computer Tips & Trends.
Build a Better Mouse Pad. Laptops are one of the boons of the computer age, but those little cursor buttons and pads can be fiddly things and often there's not a roomy desk handy for a mouse. Now comes the K-Mat to solve the problem."

Saga
Magazine "MOUSE ON YOUR THIGH
The mouse is a familiar device - it's the palm-sized sensor that you push around with one hand, guiding an arrow on the screen to carry out your commands with single finger clicks, And for some people it's a pain."
